The stock Bosch ignition system used technology that dates back a century - to the Kettering system, which was introduced in the 1910 Cadillac. With points, the timing will drift; power and fuel economy will suffer.

Make sure that your distributor has one-piece points, as older (pre-1968 or so) Bosch distributors typically have two-piece points. If it has two-piece points, a pivot pin will remain, standing up from the breaker plate, after you remove the points.
